Review by Bucky for Rock N Roll Universe
Anthony Kiedis & company are back with 28 new tunes spanning over 2 hours for your listening pleasure with the release of their latest 2 disc set ‘Stadium Arcadium'. The first disc of the set is entitled “Jupiter," and kicks off with a strong backbeat and rhythm that reminds me a bit of a funkified “Sweet Home Alabama” mixed with some raw power chords in the chorus on “Dani California”. Throughout the whole CD John Fruciante really shines on guitar as you realize how great of a guitarist he really is. On the song “Charlie” Fruciante rips a phenomenal solo over Flea’s demonic funk rhythms. "Slow Cheetah”is a bit reminiscent of”Californication”. Chad Smith’s drumming on “Torture Me” is quite a show in itself as he rocks out to Flea’s pounding rhythm. On the mellow sounding “Hey,” Kiedis sings "…we don’t want to set up for the kill but that’s what I’m about to do…” and he does throughout both CD’s as his vocals are right on target.
Off to “Mars”(the title of the 2nd CD) and more of the same great vocals and great musicianship, especially on “21st Century” as Fruciante rips through another solo which is my favorite on the CD. ”Readymade” rocks your ass off with it’s heavy rhythm. "Make You Feel Better” is a cool tune which reminds me a bit of the Goo Goo Dolls. ”Turn It Again” is a great tune which features the funkified rhythms the Red Hot Chili Peppers are known for and once again the MVP of the CD Fruciante supplies some cool lead breaks. The CD closes with ”Death Of a Martian,” which features a cool reading over the ending rhythms and is a great way to end the album.
Overall this CD is well worth the money as it’s priced as a single CD in most places. People might think it’s a bit mellow but listen to the whole CD as the musicianship is phenomenal throughout every song.
