NAZARETH CONCERT REVIEW ON ROCK N ROLL UNIVERSE

A cold winter evening in Germany, the traffic news on the radio are horrible, snow and ice everywhere, so I started wondering if I could make it over there at all.

Nazareth was calling tonight, so it was worth at least a try. Surprisingly I arrived there right in time without any major problems. Just finding a parking lot was a hard task. With meters of snow on both sides of the road I was forced to park far away from the venue. But who cares about a walk in the snow without suitable clothing, when the goal is a concert of a rock legend!

Though doors opened already an hour ago I made it to the front row easily. From now on I am not alone anymore, because I met some people I recognized from Uriah Heep gig three months ago, same place, front row as well. Time passed very fast now and before long the support band entered stage.

It was a local band called "Instructive", and they've been pretty young, between 16 and 18.
This is a band we should keep an eye at. They played a modern rock sound, influenced by bands like Korn and Oasis, spiced with a nice portion of Trash. Even though they had some problems with their amps and effects, and even though the drummer wasn't always in time, they are damn talented, and they managed to please the audience, which was there to see a classic rock show! Most of them could've been their parents!

Now the Naz-crew took on the stage and around 11 p.m. the Scotsmen burned a large firework of hits.
Lee Agnew on drums started with a solid groove, Pete Agnew on bass joined in soon to be accompanied by Jimmy Murrison on guitar. After some time Dan Mc Cafferty entered stage and the crowd went wild. It was almost sold out so it was really cozy in front of the stage.

Almost 60 years old Dan Mc Cafferty is still very good looking and his voice has lost nothing. He needn't to jump across the stage, he has enough charisma to fill the stage anyways!
Between the songs he entertained the audience with some jokes, he even tried some words in German as he complained about the snow.
At a certain point he bet that we don't understand a word of what he is saying. Well Scottish isn't an easy language at all to understand.

Obviously most of the band was a bit ill, between towels and beers were also handkerchiefs on stage and especially Dan Mc Cafferty used them much; nevertheless they played a kick ass show containing their hits like Razamanaz, Bad Bad Boy, My White Bicycle or Love Hurts, just to mention a few. The J.J. Cale cover Cocaine fit in perfectly as well.

At Hair of the Dog they handed Dan Mc Cafferty a bagpipe on stage, never thought a bagpipe can sound like this! One of the Roadies played a cow bell at the side of the stage, hidden behind a curtain, barely to be seen.
The two younger musicians fit in the band perfectly, Jimmy Murrison plays and awesome lead guitar and Lee Agnew, Pete Agnew's son is really great behind the drums.There was only one bad thing about their performance, those 90 minutes were much too short!After the show I was lucky enough to met the band backstage, they were really nice, really cool down to earth people.Thank you guys, it was a great night. Next time you are in my area, count me in!
